MAX & NIGEL was created by Willoughby in 2019. Originating as a zine, with a limited run of 75 copies, it featured a number of interviews, including conversations with Henry Rollins, Welles, and Jim "Poorman" Trenton. That same year, Willoughby met Owen, and they established MAX & NIGEL as a prominent show on Notre Dame's student radio station WVFI. Every Friday for four years, Willoughby and Owen spun records from the station's turntables, broadcasting their personal and in-studio collections. MAX & NIGEL received the WVFI Award in 2023. Today, MAX & NIGEL is an extension of the radio show and a return back to its journalistic roots.
